40. The Finance Bill, 2024

A bill for AN ACT of Parliament to amend the law relating to various taxes and duties; and for matters incidental thereto for the financial year 2024-2025.

The Finance Bill, 2024 was introduced to the National Assembly on 9th May 2024 and subsequently passed on 25th June 2024. The Finance Bill 2024 proposed the introduction of taxes which were likely to increase the cost of living triggering widespread protests across the country. Following two weeks of demonstrations, President William Ruto refused to assent to the bill and directed the National Assembly to withdraw it.
